Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Institute (MQoPCI), formerly known as the Beehive Centre for Social Enterprise, is a Catholic educational institute located at the foot of Michiru Mountain in Chilomoni, Blantyre. We offer education ranging from Early Childhood Development to Tertiary Education.

We are inviting applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of High School Teacher majoring in physics and Chemistry to work at the Institution’s High School, Carlo Acutis Catholic High School

Job Title High School Teacher – Physics & Chemistry

Reporting to The Headteacher

Educational qualifications, Experience and attributes.

Applicant should be the holder of a Degree in Education with majors in any of the following subjects: Physics and Chemistry.

Job Purpose

To teach, mentor and help learners to achieve their potential in and outside class and develop into useful, confident and responsible citizens.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidates will carry out the following duties:

1. Planning

a. Prepare schemes of work and lesson plans in the various subject areas.

b. Identify and acquire relevant textbooks for library and class use.

c. Prepare teaching materials and lesson notes.

2. Teaching

a. Devise methods of teaching and assessing students

b. Ensure that all relevant teaching materials are available and improvise where necessary.

c. Ensure that all relevant teaching materials are available and improvise where necessary.

d. Ensure that the subject matter is delivered within the allocated time.

e. Ensure that safety rules are available and followed in the laboratory for all science classes.

3. CLASS MANAGEMENT

a. Ensure that students are given enough work to do.

b. Supervise practical and class work.

c. Ensure that students’ behaviour is consistent with the standing regulations

d. Set the laboratory in preparation for science lessons.

e. Ensure that the writing board and laboratory are clean before and after use.

4. Record Keeping

a. Prepare and maintain class registers, students’ progress reports, attendance registers and scholastic records

b. List all teaching and learning materials and equipment as well as textbooks and maintain inventory.

5. Examination

a. Prepare and set weekly, termly and end-of-year tests.

b. Mark and register marks on time.

c. Arrange a sitting plan

d. Monitor the performance of students and arrange for remedial teaching where necessary.

6. Administration

a. Identify subject needs and facilities required

b. Prepare estimates for identified needs

c. Attending departmental, sectional and staff meetings as well as general assemblies.

d. Participate in continuous professional development programmes

e. Participate in co-curricular activities.
