OUR STORY
The Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Institute is located on the original site for the Beehive Centre for Social Enterprise in Chilomoni. It brings together all the Beehive educational establishments into one family:
Mother Teresa Outreach & Family Support Centre
Mother Teresa Catholic Nursery School
St. Kizito Catholic Primary School
Carlo Acutis Catholic High School
S. John Paul II Catholic College
Since its inception in 2007, the Beehive Centre has been “Inspiring Enterprise” through business and careers for many people, and also supporting progression and development through education. This will continue, and in the future and we hope to further extend our educational offering by delivering tertiary teacher training for Blantyre.
Fully aligned with the Catholic values and ethos of the Beehive Centre, the Mary Queen of Peace Campus now has the capability to provide education to Chilomoni children from age 6 months to adulthood. Along with the Michiru Way of the Cross, The Mary Queen of Peace name was inspired by the spirituality of Our Lady of Medjugorje, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Michiru Way of the Cross is a pilgrimage trail up Michiru mountain. Along the trail are 15 ‘stations’, which tell the story of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection. A bronze sculptured work of art is located at each station, visually depicting the relevant part of the passion and Easter story. The values of the Beehive Centre for Social Enterprise: “Public Service and Personal Sacrifice” are made clear in this story. The sculptures were designed and handcrafted by Italian artist Carmelo Puzzelo and commissioned especially for the project. They were shipped over from Italy; each one was carried up the mountain manually – with no less than 7 people required to carry each sculpture. Every sculpture is embedded into the mountain by concrete footings and at each station, space has been created for private thought, reflection and prayer.
